Welcome to the farm!

We have 3 goats already (another post on them later). 2 of them were my milkers in the fall. They are due to kid next month. I was able to confirm that they were bred this week. VERY excited about that. It’ll be our first kidding on our farm.

The farm child has always wanted Lamancha’s. They have no ears. I haven’t loved how they looked but have heard they were great milkers. I hear their personalities will make up for the lack of ears. We shall see.  We finally gave in last week and got us a couple of bottle babies. They are so fun but a lot of work. The farm dogs aren’t very impressed with them and the pup just doesn’t understand why they don’t play right.  We are all going through adjustments. Of course the farm dad said “No goats in the house.” He is the one that set up their pen next to the fireplace in the living room a few days later. He is also the one that fell asleep with a goat on his chest on the living room couch that night.

Here are some fun pictures for your enjoyment!

Luna liked to hide in my soap room while I was in there working. She was so tiny, it was hard to find her. This is a 1 gallon bucket she is next to on my dirty dish cart.

Some of the farm animals are having a hard time getting used to the babies being around. Bella (pup) doesn’t understand why they don’t play right.

Pour Buster (Basset Hound) was trying to come down the steps. You can see his problem here.

Do you know how hard it is to bottle feed a baby with one hand and take a picture with the other? That would be why the picture is out of focus.

This is Luna and Gypsy (not) inside and (not) by the warm toasty fire.

The novelty of them being inside wore off pretty quickly when they started taking flying leaps off of the couch. The weather has been great so they stay all day in a pen in the goat yard.

Our donkey, Penny, has taken to mothering the babies. It’s the sweetest thing to see. I love watching them together.
